What You Need to Know About Choosing an Office Chair

Having the appropriate chair for you home office is very important for your health, focus and productivity. Being uncomfortable will not only cause you distraction but could put strain on the muscles in your neck, back and other areas. There are quite a few office chair design options:

• Kneeling chairs- these chairs promote good posture and are adjustable to various heights and are designed to build core muscle strength. However, they can put pressure on the knees and have no back rest.

• Saddle chairs- they improve the circulation in the legs, reduce pressure on the spine and lower back and help to build core muscle strength but also have no backrest.

• Ergonomic chairs- come in various shapes and sizes and are designed to help improve posture by supporting your back. They can prove expensive for premium options.

• Exercise balls- help to strengthen back muscles and are relatively cheap but you cannot adjust the height and they can be more difficult to store. There is the option of a cradle for them, to stop them from rolling around.

• Drafting chairs- are designed for use at greater heights than the standard desk, such as a kitchen counter. They can be slightly awkward getting in and out of but they usually have a foot rest ring at the base as well.

• Leather chairs- leather office chairs definitely add sophistication and style but may not provide the same comfort as an ergonomic chair.

• Mesh chairs- are very breathable and conforming to the shape of your body. Usually, you can also control the tautness of the mesh for a firmer feel.

• Executive chairs- are typically quite expensive but made from good-quality materials with a tall back.

Before choosing an office chair, there are a few areas you should consider. You need to decide: if you want a backrest and armrests, the level of adjustability of the height, armrests and lumbar support, seat depth, ability to recline, if you want body strengthen features, or if you need it to have caster wheels so that you can move around easily.
